Today I‘m sharing with you how to make a DIY mask with only two ingredients – turmeric and yogurt. You probably have them in your kitchen counter right now. The combination of these two is one of the best for clearing acne and acne scars. I am sure you‘ve heard of turmeric. You are probably cooking with it. But turmeric is also a great skincare product.

Indian brides used turmeric masks before their weddings to brighten their complexion and calm irritated skin.

What do turmeric and yogurt do for the skin?

Turmeric is packed with vitamins like calcium, beta-carotene, vitamin C, zinc and flavonoids. It reduces acne because turmeric is a natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory spice. It dries breakouts and helps minimize hyperpigmentation and acne scars.

Turmeric also works wonders for dry skin and protects against sun damage but you should be aware of its dyeing abilities. It can stain the skin that‘s why it‘s best to use turmeric combined with another product. Like yogurt.

Yogurt is a natural moisturizer and contains proteins, probiotics, vitamin D and calcium. It has lactic acid which dissolves dead skin cells fast. Yogurt is a natural exfoliator and just as turmeric it dries out pimples and reduces red marks. Yogurt is good for wrinkles and has anti-aging properties.

It brightens dark circles, soothes sunburns and can be used alone or combined with other ingredients. I used to be a skin picker, and even though I was taking care of my skin by using proper skincare and doing masks, I was damaging my skin at the same time by picking on it.

How to make the DIY mask

You need:

1 teaspoon of turmeric

1 tbsp. of plain yogurt (make sure to use one with no added sugars)

Mix it all and apply it on the skin with a brush or your fingers. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and wash off the mask with lukewarm water.

Because of its bright orange color, turmeric can stain the skin. I used to be the long lost twin of Lisa Simpson for a while until I reduced the amount of turmeric I put in.

If turmeric stains your skin which often happens massage your face with milk, plain yogurt, or just a simple cleanser after you rinse the mask off and then rinse that off again.

While you’re doing your spa mask treatment you can do a simple self-love exercise.

Lay back on a comfortable chair, couch, whatever, and just focus on your breathing for a few minutes until you feel completely relaxed. Notice how your mind keeps wandering, moving, and it never stays still. Don’t worry about it but instead of letting it just imagine on its own, plant your desire.

Continue breathing in and out and just think about having clear skin. How would you feel if you had clear skin right now? Forget about your pimples, your scars, and everything that you think is wrong with your skin. Let your imagination focus on that thought and no matter what your physical reality currently tells you, stay there, be still, and know that there is a reality out there where you have perfect skin.

It doesn’t matter what reality you’re physically abiding right now. You can change it at any given moment. When you feel ready, open your eyes, and if the time has passed wash off your mask. After washing your face, look in the mirror. You already have nice skin. You don’t see it physically yet, but you have altered your mindset and you will soon see changes as well. You can do this mask once a week.
